The donkey syndrome

You know what they say happens when you ASSUME, right?

Of course you do. So please…

DON’T ASSUME that, because I ate a piece of cake, I’m a rebel. Or that by blood sugar is low.

DON’T ASSUME that diabetes causes me to struggle with my weight. Or that weight struggles led to diabetes.

DON’T ASSUME that, because I won’t walk through the full-body scanner at the airport, I’m a troublemaker. Or a civil-rights activist.

DON’T ASSUME that I feel sorry for myself. Or that I cry myself to sleep every night.

DON’T ASSUME that, because it was made with Splenda, I’ll eat it without concern. Or that I even want to.

DON’T ASSUME that, because it says “low fat”, that it’s better for me.

DON’T ASSUME that I need your advice. Or even want it.

DON’T ASSUME that, because it’s half-past-noon, I need to eat lunch immediately.

DON’T ASSUME that I’ve got it all under control. Or that you can do any better.

DON’T ASSUME that your words of consolation are helpful. Or even requested.

DON’T ASSUME that I do everything right. Or that I don’t sometimes choose to do what I know is wrong.

DON’T ASSUME that the choices I made yesterday will be the same as today. Or tomorrow.

DON’T ASSUME that I’m self-conscious. Or confident.

DON’T ASSUME that one single, solitary number, devoid of any context, is bad. Or good.

DON’T ASSUME that I have all the answers.

Nobody does.

But I can tell you this…

…when you ASSUME, you make an ass out of YOU.

And only YOU.

So don’t.
