Fellow D-Blogger Meri from Our Diabetic Life, still needs our support as her husband continues his battle with cancer. After reading the latest update, I felt compelled me to write this.

So there was this carnival in New Jersey. I made a wish on this machine. It was called a Zoltar Machine! It had this bobbing head that looked just like a devil and if you got a quarter in the devil’s mouth you could make a wish and I did! So I made a wish to not have diabetes!

OK, so that’s not how it really happened. But earlier this month, I did make a wish: I wished that I would have a chance to meet some other people in the DOC. While making that wish, I was also terrified that I would actually have to plan something, because, you know, I really stink at planning things. I had resigned to the fact that this would just become another fleeting thought of mine that would go nowhere.
I’ve said for quite awhile that I never really knew the date of my diagnosis, nor did I know the details. About a month ago, I decided to try and find out. When this thick envelope arrived in my mailbox last week, I knew that my hospital records-request had been fulfilled, and that some of the answers would be inside.
One of my favorite traditions of the Diabetes Online Community is the monthly “Best of the ‘Betes Blogs” awards, which recognize bloggers for their contributions to the diabetes blogging community. To me, Best of the ‘Betes is more than just a pat-on-the-back for a job well done, but it’s a good starting point for people new to the community who are looking for some online resources and are a bit overwhelmed by the myriad of choices in a typical Blogroll. When someone doesn’t know where to begin, I refer them to the latest BBB awards. Also, for some of the veteran DOC’ers, Best of the ‘Betes offers some new blogs to check out that may not be on your “must-read” list. Just when I thought I’d found them all, last month’s BBB showed me a few great blogs that I’d missed.
